Canadian Family Practice Nurses Association (CFPNA)

Are you a member of CFPNA? In June 2008, the Canadian Family Practice Nurses Association was established. This association will provide a strong National voice for nurses working in family practices.

We are excited to announce that the Canadian Family Practice Nurses Association (CFPNA) has developed a website. This will be one more tool we can use to try to spread the word about the important work we all do and to help keep each other updated on conferences/workshops etc. Some of the pages are password protected so we encourage you to join the CFPNA to be able to have access to the entire website.

This website will be updated on a regular basis so check back often! Pass this link along to nurses who may not be a part of the listserv. A membership form to join the CFPNA is available below in PDF format. The website link is www.cfpna.ca

Serving on the National executive from Nova Scotia are: Carol Todd, Secretary and Patsy Smith, Vice President.

Nova Scotia Renal Program

Detection of Chronic Kidney Disease using eGFR

Detection, Monitoring & Referral of Chronic Kidney Disease using eGFR
The Nova Scotia Renal Program, a Nova Scotia Department of Health Provincial Program will be implementing province wide eGFR reporting.

Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) will be available as a request test in most District Health Authorities (DHAs) within the next year. The eGFR provides practitioners with a better measure of renal function than serum creatinine alone.

All Nova Scotia DHA labs will be calculating the eGFR based on the Modification of Diet in Renal Disease (MDRD) formula, which is similar to the Cockcroft-Gault formula. The MDRD eGFR formula does not require weight as a variable and can be easily automated in Nova Scotia labs.
